Situational Analysis

To identify what makes your health care product or service unique,  a situational analysis has been conducted. The situational analysis portion of this project will focus on the internal and external environment in which the marketing plan is to be implemented.

The situational analysis will include three specific areas:

- SWOT, a four-cell chart containing internal and external factors of the chosen healthcare organization

- Environmental forces, research into university health centers as well as health services or programming for university students.

- Competitive analysis, an analysis of  weaknesses and strengths of the competitors to the selected organization

Students in this course use real university health organizations to create an informed marketing plan over the duration of a semester

Chart on the digital tablet screen.

Environmental Factor #1

Economic conditions will play a crucial role in determining the funding and affordability
of the wellness program. As highlighted in Exploring Business (University of Minnesota,
2010), shifts in the economy can significantly impact marketing strategies. A positive
economic climate could mean more grants and support from IUI for the program.
However, an economic downturn may lead to budget constraints, limiting the services
offered or increasing fees for students, which could reduce participation.

Economic Conditions

Social Trends

Environmental Factor #2

Social trends, particularly the rising awareness of mental health issues among collegestudents, can have a positive outcome for the wellness program. With increasing attentionto mental health in higher education, demand for wellness services such as counselingand stress management may rise. As noted by the University of Minnesota (2010), socialforces have a significant impact on consumer attitudes and behaviors, making theemphasis on mental health a potentially strong support for the wellness program’sobjectives.

Competitive Analysis

Here’s how TimelyCare compares to my Wellness Program: TimelyCare positions itself as a 24/7 virtual care provider, offering students the convenience of accessing mental health and wellness services at any time. Unlike my on-campus wellness program, which offers in-person services, TimelyCare differs by providing virtual access. This may appeal to students who value flexibility and convenience but could feel less personal. TimelyCare provides a wide range of services, including virtual counseling, mental health resources, and wellness coaching, all meant to meet the needs of students around the clock.

o Strengths: TimelyCare’s key strength is its accessibility, offering round-the-clock services to students without the need for appointments or in-person visits.

o Weaknesses: A potential weakness of TimelyCare is the lack of in-person interactions, which some students may prefer for more personalized support.

TimelyCare’s real competitive advantage is its ability to offer immediate access to wellness services, making it convenient for students with hectic schedules.
